WHEN: Thursday, March 20, 2008, 4:00PMDr. Rappaport is General Manager of Health Search for the Health Solutions Group of Microsoft. Before joining Microsoft, he was Founder and CEO of Medstory, a company focused on intelligent search in health and medicine, acquired by Microsoft in 2007. Prior to Medstory, he was co-founder, President and Chief Scientist of Neuron Data Inc. (later Blaze Software), in Palo Alto, CA, a global leader in artificial intelligence and other business-critical software components serving a wide range of industries, from finance to manufacturing to healthcare, publicly traded in 2000.
He also held an appointment (1997-1999) as Senior Advisor to NASA, Office of the Director, Center of Excellence for Information Technology, at the Ames Research Center, Mountain View, CA, focusing on Internet computing and other strategic initiatives. He is a founding member of the Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) Conference. Subsequent to completing his degrees, he joined the Robotics Institute, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, as a post-doctoral fellow and later adjunct faculty. He has published in the areas of artificial intelligence, cognitive science and neurosciences in major journals and has been a speaker in leading technology and business workshops and conferences.
Dr. Rappaport received his M.D. from the Necker Sick-Children School of Medicine, René Descartes University, and his Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology from the Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris, France.
