QB3/GE Bioprocessing Seminars
This intensive course on separation and purification strategies will provide both theory and technique to members of the biotech industry and academic community. Participants will understand the principles and develop strategies for separating and purifying proteins, recombinant DNA products, and monoclonal antibodies. Hands-on laboratory exercises include cell disruption, centrifugation, membrane filtration, chromatography techniques utilizing AKTA Explorer, and column packing. QB3 Global Bio-entrerpreneurship Course
A one-week comprehensive course in bio-entrepreneurship tailored to the needs of professionals situated in countries with emerging biotechnology industries. The course provides a content-rich overview of the life sciences industry, entrepreneurship and venture financing. Idea
to IPO Course for Entrepreneurial Scientists
"Idea to IPO... and Beyond" is a course for scientists who have an interest
in entrepreneurship or who wish to build value from their biomedical inventions.
Offered at UC San Francisco, the course examines the "nuts and bolts" of building
successful biomedical businesses from concepts or promising experimental results.
The culminating event for this course occurs when scientists pitch their

Microarray Course
The QB3 Microarray Course, offered at UC Santa Cruz, was the first in a series of
summer specialty courses offered by QB3. The series is dedicated to training and
empowering a new generation of students who are able to fully integrate the
quantitative sciences with Biosciences. Watch this web site for

SURF-IT
Undergrad Fellowship
SURF-IT provides an intensive and personalized summer program for women,
minority, or disadvantaged undergraduates. SURF-IT includes research directly
supervised by a UC Santa Cruz faculty member in computer engineering,
computer science, or electrical engineering. Students also have weekly
meetings focused on graduate school preparation, how to present research
results, research ethics, as well as field trips to local neighboring
Silicon Valley research laboratories, and of course a number of social
