Given the right environment, entrepreneurial scientists like you can change the world. Our job is to give you the right environment. We are dedicated to helping you reduce the time and money you need to prove your technology, build your team, find experts, and attract capital. Our incubator helps you get going quickly and inexpensively—graduate students have launched successful startups with little more than a credit card!

Getting funding is one of the most important and challenging tasks for a life-science startup. We are constantly looking for creative ways to help.

Rent one bench at a time

In 2006 we developed a model to lower the costs of launching a biotech startup: make expensive resources in small quantities. This way startups get exactly what they want when they want it. You can rent one bench at a time and expand when you need as you need it.

An incubator within an incubator: Janssen Labs @QB3

Through a collaboration between Johnson & Johnson Innovation and QB3, our Founding Partner Janssen Labs is expanding into the Bay Area. Janssen Labs @QB3 has taken 20% of the building, to encourage open-innovation—a no-strings-attached approach to creating relationships between promising startups and J&J.

QB3 Collaborative Startups

Major pharma partners, Bayer, Novartis, Pfizer, Roche, and Takeda, have joined with QB3 and Mission Bay Capital to find and invest in innovative startups. We can leverage these partnerships to provide

  • Seed-stage capital: pharma and MBC will co-invest
  • Focus on the most important technical risks: what data will be necessary to get larger investment
  • Strong validation to VCs
  • Leveraged expertise and services from large companies

Support and mentorship programs

Programs include business model, pitch deck, and SBIR classes and seminars; community events and networking opportunities with QB3 innovators, mentors, and partners.
